Re: what does this mean: 00588 - Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (Theresias) There are a lot of tools which help you diagnosing airbag problems like this and based on the year, make and model I would much more tend to look a problem in the clock spring section rather than starting to replace the most expensive parts immediately.
01217 – Side Airbag Igniter: Driver side (N199) 32-00 – Resistance too High. I have checked the connection under the drivers seat and it looks ok. I cleaned both plugs with contact cleaner, and the connection seems tight. Can anyone suggest anything else I could try?

Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 1
Recall -engine and engine cooling I have a 07 Jetta 2. 0l. 2 months ago I noticed a gas smell when I took my oil cap off I noticed there was a lot of steam/smoke & I could tell that's where the smell was coming from. There was nothing visible other than the steam/gas vapor. The coolant level never moves. I was only getting 15 miles to the gallon because it was leaking into my engine. On 7/13/19 the engine seized (locked) up while I was driving it. I was driving my wife to work with our 5 year old son. I had just turned on the street of her work going 10 miles an hour & it felt like my car just died. I couldnt even get the engine to turn over. I had to get my vehicle towed to a repair shop. Which is when I found out that the engine seized. I have absolutely no transportation now. (recall faulty air bags my car is miles away at the repair shop, so I can't take a picture of the air bag light but it turned on about a week ago and hasn't shut off. My concern is that this is something that a repair shop can not fix/ its going to be so expensive that I cant afford to fix it. It has faulty air bags that can just go off while Im driving! safety bags are a must have & it is illegal to sell/produce any non safe vehicle! I seen that Volkswagen company made a hand full of recalls on this vehicle over the last 8 years. The previous owner kept the car in a garage & started it daily he just never checked for recalls. Parts on this car are compatible with the 06-09 Jettas& sportwagons & he had replaced parts. Im unsure which ones were replaced. My vehicle falls under the category of a vw Jetta sedan. I'm having all of the same recall issues that the Jetta is recalling for. & the horn does not work when it's parked. Your company posted the recalls for all of the same problems that I'm having with this vehicle! recall no. 40j2/s4. Recall no. 20i4/u1. recall no. Q8. .

April 12, 2019 airbag light appeared. I took the car to the service center of the Volkswagen dealership car was purchased at. After diagnosis the driver's side seat belt tested faulty which could be rendering the airbag inoperable. The parts needed to be ordered in order to repair it at a second appointment. Concerning that the dealerships don't carry parts that could affect the safety features of the Jetta in the event of an accident. This Jetta has never had the airbags deploy or any issues with the seat belts until now.

Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta 8
Driver airbag light illuminated on dashboard while car was in motion on highway in pouring rain weather. Car horn is also currently not working/able to be used in event of emergency or warning. Airbag light would come on for about 6 seconds and then go off repeatedly then finally stayed on for good. Appears to be a clock spring issue from research that may not have been initially covered and completed in 2015 manufacturer recall. VIN is also not included in current takata airbag recall either. . . . No previous issues to note prior to symptoms beginning. . .
Air Bag Light On problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 9
We purchased this car two days ago for our 18 yo daughter and I did not notice the airbag light on. It was when she pulled into the driveway and tried to honk the horn that our attention was drawn to the light. It is at the dealer today having the clock spring repaired and costing $450. 00. As I began to research the problem, I became aware that in 2015 vw had a recall on the clock spring of the cc and passat. I asked the dealer if this car would be covered under the recall and he said the Jetta was not under any recall. My reply, 'hmmm, I guess it's just a coincidence. ' I had read that there was an investigation into the recall failing and that possibly there would be an expansion of the vw's being recalled for this issue which does include the Jetta 2010-2014. The dealer told me if that did happen, I would be able to get all of the expense reimbursed. It is infuriating to me that there is a known failure of the clock spring in vw's and the company is not being responsible about it. My daughter would not be safe with a car that has a failing air bag. It is morally unconscionable.

Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta 17
Takata recall. I have a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta gli edition 30 w/navigation. My airbag light came on while I was driving that's right in motion. The same day my steering wheel started clicking when I turned it to the left one day. I went to use my horn and it wouldn't work. Then noticed all of my all the buttons on my steering wheel were not working either. The steering wheel buttons are the controls for the navigation settings, time, phone. There isn't a way to change setting using the console buttons. The steering wheel controls are the hub of setting controls. I can not use my horn for anything. 18 wheelers swaying, someone not paying attention I can not use my horn for any of these reasons. Every time I get in my car I am without an airbag. I went online to do some research. I found a recall for the 2014 Jetta I printed out the recall # and took it to the dealership and said this recall and the clicking on my steering wheel match. Can you fix this here? the representative then told me that he was sorry the recall did not include the gli 30 year anniversary edition Jetta. The shop would not order the part without a diagnostic which cost me $120. 88. Once the diagnostic was complete I received a call 'MA'am you are correct the clock spring is what needs to be replaced and the part is $290. 07 and labor $316. 88 with tax a total of $682. 33 even though everything matched the recall. Because this recall isn't expanded and doesn't include the correct cars. I have had to pay $803. 21. I am out safely driving with a airbag or the safety of a horn. This recall does not include all cars affected.

Took car in for recall at Volkswagen dealership. They 'forgot' to do recall on airbag. Next time they performed recall but steering wheel is clicking, horn does not work, none of the steering wheel buttons function and airbag light remains on. Took car for an expensive engine repair and I told them the recall was not completed as the recall should have been and they told me the other Volkswagen marked it as complete and it would cost me $2000 because airbag has been ripped out and disconnected. So I have no horn, no steering wheel function keys, a steering wheel that clicks when a hard turn is made and a ripped, disconnected non-functioning airbag.
Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta 19
There was a recall a couple of years ago on my vehicle regarding the clockspring. Every time I made a left turn it would make a loud cracking noise, the sharper the turn the louder the sound. The airbag light appeared, the systems on the steering wheel don't work anymore including the horn. I have called vw to see if they'll fix it, I said it's related to the recall. They said it will cost ~$150 just to do the evaluation.

Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta 23
My airbag light came on for no apparent cause. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the clockspring cable and sent me on my way. I was charged over $400 for this. That same afternoon the light came on again and I took it back. After 2 weeks they still have my car and don't know what the problem is. I looked up information on your site and found that other Jettas of my same year had this part under recall. But when I asked the guy at the garage he said my car was not on the recall list. So, I looked on your site again and saw that 2012 Jettas were in fact included but it didn't appear that my specific VIN number was included. How can this be possible? I am having the same trouble with the same part and don't feel I should have paid for this or any further repairs that may be pending. My question to you is, shouldn't my VIN number be included in this recall?.
Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta 24
Yellow airbag light would stay on when car was on. I checked with vw dealer to see if there was a recall and was advised no. This is the same problem that the 2010 thru 2016 vw are having. Dealer advised to replace the clockspring and harness due to build up of dust in the steering hub. Cost of repair $678. 74 plus a 3week waitng time for part to arrive at the vw dealer.

If you’re anything like me, you hate warning lights on your dashboard because it’s your car’s way of telling you to get your shit together. One of the more dangerous lights you can have on is the airbag warning light. Here’s how to diagnose and fix it without the risk of near-face explosions.
The work performed is on a 2004 Toyota Camry. Other cars may be different, but this represents a common case of why airbag lights may be illuminated. When working on an airbag system, exercise extreme caution. If you’re not confident in your ability to do the work, consult a professional.
A car’s airbag system is quite simple - it consists of a few sensors, a module that interprets the signal, and an airbag which has an element that allows for rapid deployment by a small charge placed in the bag. Over time, these sensors can wear out and become defunct. Thankfully, your system constantly monitors the state and readiness of these sensors, just in case you decide that your Egg McMuffin is more important than the road.
The two most common sensors to go bad on a modern car are the passenger’s occupancy sensor and the clock spring.
The passenger’s occupancy sensor is a weight-sensitive element that noticed if you have more than a certain amount of weight in the front passenger’s seat. This is made so smarties who put their babies in the front seat don’t have the airbag deploy right into the back of their infant’s head during a crash, but their fat bowling buddies will get a ‘bag to the face should the situation call for it.

With the ability of seats to move forward and back, the sensor’s wiring harness can get stretched and frayed, or worse - completely disconnected from the seat itself over time. The way you know if the sensor is at fault or not, before scanning your airbag system for faults, is to simply look at the “Passenger Airbag Off” light. If there’s no one in the seat, the light should illuminate. If there is someone in the seat, the light should turn off, signifying that the system is armed. The default state of the bag is to arm, so there’s likely no case where someone will sit in the seat and the airbag will not deploy.
If, for some reason, the light never illuminates when no one sits in the seat, the sensor could be at fault. First, check the wiring underneath the seat to see if there’s anything knocked loose, making sure that there aren’t any frayed wires.
If all is well, then you can either have the seat taken apart and have a new pad put in, which can be expensive, or you can simply bypass the occupancy sensor with a universal or plug and play kit, rendering the bag armed when the car is running. This is an optimal solution when you know that you won’t have any child seats or young children in the front of the car in the foreseeable future.
With a plug and play kit, all you do is disconnect the yellow connector underneath the seat and wire in the bypass module for your car. With a universal kit, you’ll have to splice into the wires, which I wouldn’t advise if you’re a novice or don’t have a wiring diagram in front of you. The last thing you want is wires crossed in an airbag system, especially if that determines whether or not the airbag deploys on a passenger.
Moving ahead, the next most common issue with airbag systems is the car’s clock spring. This is the electrical coupling between the steering column and steering wheel. This also allows your horn and wheel-mounted buttons to function. A dead giveaway of a bad clock spring is an airbag light and broken horn, despite all fuses being good. With this fix, the steering wheel has to be removed, but it’s quite a simple process and can be completed with hand tools in under 20 minutes. Also, unless your car is super rare, it never makes sense to buy used clock springs when new ones are available and quite affordable.
Before any airbag work, remove the negative battery cable from the terminal and wait 10-15 minutes for the capacitors to discharge.
Point your wheels straight, with the steering wheel facing straight. Next, locate the screws holding the center section of the wheel in place, including the airbag. This is usually a small hex bolt or Torx bit. On some Nissans, you will need a tamper-proof Torx bit. In my case, it was one T30 torx bolt on either side of the steering wheel. Sometimes these loosen but do not come out. This is normal.

Next, pull the airbag toward you and remove the connectors. You can use a pick and slide the yellow clips out to remove the connector. You can now remove the airbag.

Turn the steering wheel left and right to expose the screws holding the steering column trim in place. Note: some screws can be located on the bottom of the trim. Pry off the bottom of the trim with a plastic spreader tool of a flat head screwdriver.
Engage the steering lock to make sure that the wheel doesn’t move for this next part. Take two pieces of painter’s tape and place it between the steering wheel and the steering column trim. These will be your alignment marks for when you put the steering back to its original position.
Take a breaker bar with the appropriate sized socket and loosen the steering wheel nut a few turns, but do not take it off completely.
Most steering wheels, over time, have created a fairly strong bond with the steering shaft, so it will take a bit of pulling back and forth in a jerking motion to get the wheel free. The column nut should stay on so you don’t punch yourself in the face after tugging on it. Yes, it’s happened to me. Don’t make my mistake. When the wheel is loose, you can remove the nut and the wheel, exposing the clock spring.
Disconnect the harnesses at the bottom or back of the clock spring and remove the old clock spring. There may be bolts holding it on, but in my case, there were only clips.
The new clock spring should have a locking tab so it doesn’t stays centered in the correct orientation while shipping. Install the new clock spring and break this tab off by bending it until it snaps.

Install the steering wheel, lining up the tape marks that you made before removal.

Tighten the steering column nut to the specified torque with a torque wrench - Google is your friend when it comes to torque specs. If you can’t find torque specs, I’d go with as tight as you can make it with your hands and a breaker bar, adding a dab of thread sealant beforehand. You can now install the harnesses and airbag, making sure the bolts are hand-snug and you’re not binding with anything. Reinstall the lower trim piece and reconnect the negative battery terminal and turn on the car.

You should no longer have an airbag light on and your horn will now work. Hooray!
Not all airbag lights are due to these issues, but most are because these components are the ones that take the most abuse and are the most susceptible to failure. Tai gta 5. If none of these procedures work for you, you can try googling how to perform an airbag system reset, which will reset all warning lights and/or display error codes if they persist.
Some airbag problems require professional diagnostics equipment, so if you think that your car has a fault but doesn’t exhibit the symptoms I’ve discussed, it’s best to consult with a mechanic with the skills and tools necessary.
In any case, I hope that this quick DIY illustrates how easy it is to fix an issue with your car if you’re willing to spend a little time on it. Happy modding!
